Description
In addition to its original region and storyline, Pokemon Voyager also has quite a few custom battle mechanics, battle types, and Battle Frontier facilities. This is a large undertaking for a small development team. In order to release incremental changes to our battle engine separately from the storyline, the Pokemon Voyager team has created a separate Frontier Demo patch for players to exercise the battle engine and provide incremental feedback on its quality and mechanics without waiting for the storyline to stabilize.
Key Features & Changes
New mechanics:
- Multi-ability system. In this demo you will be able to equip up to 4 abilities, with each ability having an equip cost and each Pokemon being assigned an ability capacity to balance the possible combinations. More info can be found here
New battle types:
- Triple Battles (currently battle animations are disabled due to hardware limitation challenges)
- Rotation Battles
- 12v12 doubles and 18v18 triples partner modes (in the Battle Tower)
- Battle Royale battles (1v1v1v1)
- 3v1 Battles
- SoS Battles
New Frontier Facilities:
- Battle Royale – Standard (Gen 7), King of the Hill, and 3v1 Modes
- Battle Arcade – Random effects applied at the start of each battle
- Battle Satellite – microgravity battles in a Battle Tower format
- Battle Barn – SoS chain challenge. Get as high a chain as you can!
- Battle Library – All learnable moves/abilities are on the table, but only usable once
- Battle Rink – Procedurally generated ice sliding puzzle challenge
In addition to all Pokemon Emerald original facilities with some adjustments:
- Battle Tower – now with 6v6 modes, triples, rotation, 12v12 tag, and 18v18 tag!
- Battle Factory – now with triples and rotation modes!
- Battle Pyramid – now with doubles and triples modes!
- Battle Dome – no changes from baseline games
- Battle Pike – no changes from baseline games
- Battle Arena – no changes from baseline games
- Battle Palace – no changes from baseline games
Some additional battle mechanics improvements:
- Several custom moves/abilities/items/terrain/weather for a unique battle experience
- Spread moves now damage all foes at once – credit to Alex/Pokeemerald expansion!
- Non-move animations occur at same time as text is printed for faster battles and game-accurate stat change animations
- Many more ability popup/item triggers have been added to enhance information provided in battles
- A battle info screen has been added to help track the battle state
Gym Leader Gauntlet Challenge
At any point in the demo you will be able to challenge the Gym Leader Gauntlet Challenge. This lets you take your current party into a separate challenge area where you will challenge each Pokemon Voyager gym leader in series. If you’re able to defeat them all, your team will get entered into the Frontier Demo Hall of Fame! You can also purchase healing items in the entry hub to support your endeavor!
