Overview of the Game
Pokemon Weird Type Fun is a straightforward rom hack designed to confuse even experienced players about type matchups. It introduces 18 new types and a completely redesigned pokedex, making the familiar Kanto region feel different.
Although Pokemon Weird Type Fun follows the main FireRed storyline and structure, some characters and story elements have been altered to keep things interesting. Previously event-only areas like Navel Rock and Birth Island are now accessible through gameplay, and a few new locations and small events have been added.
Features
- Every Pokemon type has been changed to a new one, and their matchups are different from the originals.
- There are about 400 Pokemon included, from generations 1 to 9, plus a few beta and fan-made ones.
- Each Pokemon is redesigned to match its new type in a quirky way.
- Moves and items are updated to fit the new types.
- It’s mostly a faithful Gen III Kanto game but with some new surprises.
- The physical/special split is implemented.
- TMs can be used infinitely.
Change Log
v1.93
- Meloetta and Thundurus had their locations listed wrong in documentation. They’re now correct.
- Renamed the documentation file from PokémonLocations to PokédexGuide for clarity
- Halved the time eggs take to hatch for most species, reduced it significantly for the rest
- Rotom, Mimikyu, Poipole and Naganadel can now breed
- Added an extra Shiny Stone to Route 7 and an extra Chaos Stone to Route 16
Known Issues in v1.93
- Female player character’s palette messes up in the opening sequence if you give the rival a custom name. Won’t affect the rest of the game.
- Shrinking sprite also gets pixelated
- Rival walks up to the wrong ball when choosing starter, gets right Pokemon though
- Rival’s first optional battle near Viridian doesn’t trigger
- Pokedex automatically records some Pokemon as seen
- Teachy TV can crash the game when used, hence it is not given out.
- Giving the items Whipped Dream, Faller Stone, Gemstone, Plain Stone, Shiny Stone, Razor Claw, Hourglass, Sweet Heart, Loud Whistle, Chaos Stone, Premium Gem or Link Cable for pokemon to hold you can end up with some pretty glitchy effects (anything from item duplication to turning boxed pokemon to bad eggs), so play around with that at your own risk 8D
- They can be used and deposited to the PC like normal as long as they’re not attached to Pokemon.
- Some trainers have Pokemon they’re not intended to have, which can include some rival fights depending on which starter was chosen
- The move Camouflage has rather nonsensical effects
- Dodydra’s front sprite’s beak does…stuff…when it uses Fusion Dance
- TM icon colours don’t match types in bag
- The Void type is based on ??? aka typeless. Hence, Void type attacks don’t draw from either attacking stat for damage calculations and end up underpowered if they use the normal damage formula. This problem will hopefully be fixed in the future.
