Description
Pokemon Ghost Grey Version is a horror-inspired Pokemon FireRed ROM Hack that takes inspiration from classic Pokemon creepypastas and the darker ROM hacks of the late 2000s and early 2010s.
Instead of the bright and colorful Kanto players remember, Ghost Grey presents a ruined version of the region set decades into the future. Towns, routes, characters, Pokemon, music, and even familiar locations have been transformed to fit the game’s unsettling atmosphere.
Despite its much darker setting, the adventure still follows a familiar Pokemon formula. You will explore Kanto, build a team, collect seven badges, complete the Pokedex, uncover hidden secrets, and attempt to become Champion.
However, things in this version of Kanto are rarely as simple as they first appear.
Story
The year is 2049, around 50 years after the events of Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal.
Kanto is no longer the lively region it once was. The land has fallen into decay and is now filled with ghosts, strange creatures, dangerous people, and residents struggling to survive in a world from which there appears to be no escape.
You begin another Pokemon journey through this familiar yet deeply changed region.
Your objective sounds simple: earn seven badges, catch Pokemon, and become the Champion.
But as you travel deeper into Kanto, you will discover that there is much more hiding beneath the surface.

Technical Changes
Pokemon Ghost Grey Version also makes several important changes to the standard Pokemon battle system.
- Steel once again resists Ghost and Dark attacks.
- Psychic is no longer weak to Ghost.
- Fairy resists Dragon instead of being completely immune to it.
- Ghost attacks against other Ghost Pokemon deal 1.5x damage instead of the usual 2x.
- EVs and IVs have been removed.
- Pokemon have 0 IVs and cannot gain EVs through battles or items.
- Hidden Power has been removed.
- Eggs and Pokemon breeding are not available.
- Dark Pulse has been reduced from 80 to 70 Base Power.
- Crunch has been reduced from 80 to 70 Base Power.
- Several completely new moves have been added.
Some of the new moves include Purify, a physical Psychic attack that applies the Foresight effect; Shatterpoint, a physical Psychic move replacing Brick Break; Soul Shift, a Psychic-type switching attack similar to U-turn; and Jumpscare, a Ghost-type move inspired by Fake Out.
Original Music
One of the biggest additions in Pokemon Ghost Grey Version is its completely original soundtrack.
Whale (AmnCordy) composed more than 130 original songs and jingles specifically for the game, helping give the ruined Kanto region its own distinctive atmosphere instead of simply relying on the standard FireRed soundtrack.
