Description
A simple and heartfelt rework of the original Pokémon Blue—made just the way I always wanted it to be. This version flips the perspective and lets you play as Blue instead of Red, acting as a true counterpart to Pokémon Red. It keeps the core gameplay exactly the same, with just a few small tweaks to the visuals and dialogue to fit the theme.
You’re no longer just “Red with a different name”—you’re actually Blue, using his Yellow version sprites to better match his official look. All of Red’s in-game appearances have been replaced with Blue, from the title screen and overworld to the bike, fishing, battle, and player card. Even Daisy and Red’s mom have been swapped, and their dialogue changed to fit the new setup.
Rival Red now uses Blue’s traditional role, but with a softer, friendlier tone. Gone are Blue’s cocky lines like “Smell ya later!”—Red is more polite this time around.
Red’s team is also thoughtfully built to reflect his iconic Pokémon, like Pikachu, Snorlax, Lapras, and the three starter evolutions. His battle sprite updates throughout the game, showing his growth, just like Blue’s did in the original—starting with his basic look, moving to his Yellow version, and finally his champion pose.
Besides a few sprite changes (like using the cool Space World ’97 versions of Squirtle’s evolution line), the rest of the game is untouched. Same story, same version exclusives, even the same old bugs and glitches. This is meant to be a near-pure version—just with the twist I always wanted.
Maybe it’s a small change, but getting to play as Blue the way I imagined it makes a big difference. No longer the arrogant rival—just a regular trainer on his journey, in the version that should’ve been.
